Phaselis Bay

Founded in 700 BC by Rhodian colonists, Phaselis became Lycia's most important trade centre with its three natural harbours. The city, which exported timber and rose oil, has survived to the present day with its ancient theatre, agora and bath ruins. Abandoned in the 13th century due to earthquakes and pirates, the bay today offers a superb natural-historical unity within the boundaries of Beydağları National Park. Crystal-clear waters and surrounding pine forests make Phaselis an indispensable stop for both swimmers and history enthusiasts.
